Recently, 3G networks have reached the coverage levels needed to make 3G Mobile Data Cards a truly realistic option for complete mobile access to your corporate network and programs. A 3G Data Card will allow ‘mobile’ access company email, faxes, in house business applications, intranet, shared files and the Internet using 3G mobile services from providers such as Vodafone and Orange. Most packages offer 3G roaming to European countries Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Spain, Portugal. Germany, France, Ireland and Sweden meaning the business traveller can stay in touch with head office at all times. 3G speed is currently 384 Kbps download max - 64Kbps upload max. In real terms this means users able to download a 10 page PowerPoint of 400Kb in approximately 20 seconds. In areas that are out of the range of 3G service, most packages offer seamless switching from 3G to GPRS although in practice, this can only be used for the bare essentials such as email.
